Center on Transition to Employment: School-Based Supported Employment Fidelity Scale

The Center on Transition to Employment invites you to an informational webinar on a multi-year study on the design and implementation of a fidelity scale to measure the critical components and key performance indicators of school-based supported employment services for transition age youth with disabilities. The presentation will discuss the results of the study in relationship to what factors affect the implementation of these services in Virginia’s secondary schools.

WIOA Helps Individuals with Disabilities Pursue and Obtain Well-Paying Employment Opportunities | Disability.Blog

From Disability.blog : “…WIOA also makes an attempt to limit the pipeline of people with disabilities moving into non-integrated, sub-minimum wage jobs. Now, before an individual with a disability can be placed in such a situation, he/she must have received ‘pre-transition services’ while in high school to ensure that the proper support and preparation occurs before the student enters the workforce. The student must also have applied for services through the local VR program. Under WIOA, the goal of the VR program in each state is to help individuals with disabilities to ‘prepare for, secure, retain or regain employment.'”

Transition Services: A “Hot Education Career” – US News

From U.S. News and World Report: “Transition services is just one area among several offering opportunity in the special-ed field, which besides classroom teachers also includes case managers and occupational therapists. Median pay for teachers is about $55,100, slightly higher than for most other teaching disciplines; according to the Department of Education’s latest teacher shortage survey, nearly all 50 states report a lack of qualified professionals. ‘There are such significant needs at the different levels,’ says Kimberly Paulsen, associate professor of special education at Vanderbilt. ‘We get calls, if not every day, at least three, four times a week from school districts’ looking for people, she says.”
