The registration for the 2014 New York DCDT Statewide Institute (March 26, 27, and 28, 2014) is now open. The conference will be located at the The Gideon Putnam in Saratoga Springs, NY. This year’s theme will be Preparing Students and Systems for Multiple Pathways to Graduation.
The New York State DCDT Institute, Preparing Students and Systems for Multiple Pathways to Graduation will be organized along the following strands:
Education and Skills Development — the imparting knowledge and skills to individuals through curriculum and instruction, experiential learning, and work-based learning. Effective education provides individuals with the necessary tools to become productive citizens, pursue higher education and lifelong learning, engage in meaningful employment, and work toward achieving their life goals.
Career Development – designed to help young people prepare for success in postsecondary education, a career, and/or independent living. Preparatory activities include career awareness, career exploration, and career assessment tied to classroom learning; employability skills training; and work experiences.
Youth Development — a process that prepares a young person to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood and to achieve his or her full potential. Youth development is promoted through activities and experiences that help youth develop social, ethical, emotional, physical, and cognitive competencies.
Family Involvement — family participation in promoting the social, emotional, physical, academic, and occupational growth of youth. Successful family involvement relies on meaningful collaboration among youth, families, schools, and agencies.
Community Connections — a flexible set of services in partnership with community organizations. accommodations and supports that help youth gain access to postsecondary education, community service, employment, mental and physical health care, access to transportation, access to financial planning advice and management, and participation in leisure or recreational activities, as well as a number of other adult roles.
